“Silence is Consent” 

One of the most popular novelists in the late 1800s, Emma Dorothy Eliza Nevitte Southworth used her voice to write modern female characters that rebelled against traditional gender narratives.  She was a staunch supporter of women’s rights and social change.  

The E.D.E.N. Southworth sneaker was purposely designed with fabrics and colors that would be considered traditionally soft and feminine, because there is nothing anti-feminine about ensuring that a woman’s voice is heard.  Just like the rose in the blue fabric, sometimes we need a reminder to use our thorns in order to create strong boundaries.  Don’t mistake silence for “just going with the flow” or “being non-confrontational.”  By remaining silent when faced with inexcusable words or actions by others, we inadvertently consent to the appropriateness of those words and actions.  Some days we need help with gaining the courage it takes to speak out, and these shoes are made for just those days.
